Long Island Cancer Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1996 with a mission to differentiate itself from the larger cancer organizations by focusing on the people…the victims, survivors, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers.
Losing both parents to cancer, David Merlob founded the Long
Island Cancer Alliance with a conviction to reach out to all
those living with this insidious disease. The Alliance is
committed to identifying and serving the needs of all individuals
impacted by cancer.
The Long Island Cancer Alliance is a grass roots organization
funded strictly by private donors like you. The volunteer
staff is committed to helping all people fight this disease.
Unlike the larger cancer organizations, there are no salaries
and huge administrative costs to pay, which enables us to
give more back to the community.
Our Services include:
- Unique programs for children and teens
- Critical Medical Information
- Personalized Guidance
- Health Care Referrals & Managed Care Options
- Support groups for the Individual & Family
- Educational & Outreach programs
- Wig Bank For Women with Breast Cancer
…And much more with compassion and an understanding of urgency.
We are able to provide our services through a number of channels including our:
-
Website: www. CancerSociety.com
- Toll Free Hotline: 1- 877- 54 CANCER
- Out-Reach Programs
877- 54 CANCER is toll free and open Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 1:00PM. When you call, you are connected to a live operator, not a recording. We feel that people in need should not be forced to listen to recordings and annoying teleprompts, but rather a caring, compassionate person to assist you during a difficult time.
Out-Reach Programs
The Long Island Cancer Alliance spends time out in the communities
educating people on the dangers of Smoking, Cancer Detection
& Prevention. We partner with local hospitals, large and
small businesses, and local schools to raise awareness and
identify the needs of our families.
Feeling Good on the Water Program
This program was established with the idea that children and
their families who have cancer can spend the day boating and
fishing, forgetting about their disease and just having fun.
In addition, research studies have found that boating can
lessen the side effects of chemotherapy as well as help in
the healing process. Celebrities such as Billy Joel have participated
in our “Feeling Good on the Water Program”.

Research
Understanding the importance of research, the Long Island
Cancer Alliance has partnered with Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center as a Corporate Cancer Research Sponsor.
MSKCC is a leader in cancer research and we are able to provide
much needed funding to further their endeavors. Our dedicated
support to research plays an important role in our steadfast
efforts to prevent, control, and ultimately cure cancer in
the future.
In The Media
Our success and accomplishments have been widely recognized.
